Something Funny

Yesterday I missed the train and my cell phone was dead so I had no way of contacting the parents to tell them I was semi-stuck in new haven and "helllllpppp" so I ended up having to loiter around the state street train station for an hour and a half waiting for the next train after having an extremely frustrating experience with a payphone and a couple of crackheads.
So I get on the damn train, and it stops. dead. stopped. for a half hour.
So I am glancing around and of course I have none of my usual train entertainment with me (cell phone, knitting, book, nadda) and I already exhausted the entertainment value of taking pictures of myself making dramatic faces with my digital camera while I was waiting for the train.
So I look to my left and everyone in the 4 seats that I can see are working on their laptops.
and then I see a guys head poke up over the top of the seat, and he is looking really intently at the guy in front of him's computer screen.
and I am like "is he reading whatever that other guy is doing?"
so then the guy looking over the seat puts his glasses on! and continues reading whatever is on the guy in front of him's computer screen for the whole time that the train is stopped! then the guy with the computer gets an odd look on his face and kind of glances over his shoulder, and the guy ducks down!
So then the guy on the computer looks back at his scene, and the guy behind him pops back up! it was so hilarious.

Plans!

So... the Rogue pullover is coming along quite nicely/ quickly. Hopefully I will be able to finish it by the end of the month, before it gets too warm out to wear wool.
I was feeling badly about using the wool for Liam's Aran sweater for a new project, so I was looking for a nice tweedly yarn on the yarn.com, and what did I find? Classic Elite Sky Tweed onsale for $3.99 a ball, which is a good price, and I have had my eye on the Saddle Shoulder Aran Cardigan by Elizabeth Zimmermann/Meg Swansen since I saw it on Brooklyn Tweed...
So I have ordered the pattern, and I am waiting for Liam to email me with his color choice of yarn before I order that.
I am thinking thought that I will make it a pullover instead of a cardigan, because I cannot really picture Liam in a cardigan.

In other news, my brother got his financial aid package from Bennington college, and he got a $25,000 scholarship/ or grant or whatever it is... free money, in addition to federal loans, making Bennington (which is his first choice school) even more affordable than some of his alternatives. So that is very exciting.

I'm Just mad about Saffron

A friend in need is a friend indeed!

I finally caved in and bought this zipper tote bag from Superbuzzy
It arrived in under two days and it is really really cute, although bigger than I thought it was going to be. I thought I would be able to use it as sort of a tote/purse thing, but its huge! I have been using to carry all my stuff for work though, including knitting, yoga gear, lunchbag, and purse. Its perfect. I had been wanting it for quite some time, and finally made the decision to get it because I noticed while browsing the sight that there were only two left, so it was kind of an impulse buy, but at the same time I did think about getting it for about a month before getting it.

I bought this Tahki yarn, donegal tweed back in November, in anticipation of an Aran pullover for Liam. I have started and ripped out the pullover 3 different times, and the other day while looking for a new pattern I came across the Rogue pullover pattern from the Girl from Auntie, and I decided I really wanted to make it for myself, and rather than go out and spent another small fortune on yarn, I thought I would use up some of my stash. So in other words, the yarn for Liam's Aran pullover has been sacrificed for the Rogue sweater. I will have to find new yarn for the Aran when I find the perfect pattern I think.

As you can see in the photos, things are moving along quite well. I started the sweater on Friday night and spent a good deal of time on Sunday working on it while watching movies.
I haven't even messed up on the cables yet! (knock on wood)

100 posts!

Here is a picture of my new girl Blythe SABRINA.
She is a Tailor Gibson.
I have lightly customized her by sandmatting her face, trimming her hair to even out her bangs, ironing her hair straight, removing her stock make-up and replacing with chalk pastel eyeshadow in greenish blue, and a rosy color blush. She came with freckles, but they came off when I sanded her face, so I painted new freckles on.
I like her stock eyechips, they are all nice colors, except I am not too into her right facing dark pink ones, so I might replace those at some point.

Also in the above picture, you can see me! in my new glasses. I like them.

April Showers....

Last night the weatherman proclaimed we would be enduring "the worst flooding of the decade!" due to heavy rain, and extremely high tides over night and into the morning today. Now, I don't know if I buy the "storm of the decade" claim, but we certainly did have some rain, and the tide did get quite high, so high in fact that it floated my dad's sailboat right off of its wooden hoisting supports (I don't really know what else to call them), and also has turned the road down by the beach into a sand pit.

I had quite a productive weekend, although I didn't make it to Yoga despite being in New Haven this weekend.

Liam came down to visit and on Friday night we went out to see Grindhouse, which I was a bit nervous about seeing, Zombies and Car chases not really being my thing, but I do love Tarantino movies, and it was in fact REALLY GOOD. and I enjoyed it quite a bit.

On Sunday I made carmelized apple crepes for breakfast and we basically just lounged around the house, I got quite a bit of work done on my new knitting project (pics to come shortly) and we watched The Black Dahlia and also First Knight.
We then braved the downpour and went into New Haven to Pepe's pizza for dinner.
And there was NO LINE! and no wait at all!
We got a pitcher of long trail and a White Clam pizza, so good.
